When it comes to social media platforms, businesses are spoilt for choice. From LinkedIn, to Pinterest, X, TikTok, YouTube and Meta it can be hard choosing which platforms to have a presence on.
Here are a few tips to help you decide which social media platforms are right for your business.
You can find different audiences across different social media channels. In your social media strategy, you would have established who your target audience is. Using this, spend some time doing research into every social media platform to learn more about their users: where they’re based, their age group and how they use the platform. You can then determine which platform(s) will be best suited for you to reach your intended audience.
It’s always important to do some research into your competitors and their presence on social media. You can learn a lot about them and how they reach their customers - which could also potentially be your customers. Is there a specific platform that’s more prolific for them? How many platforms are they using?
Think about your business, is it more B2B or B2C? Is it both? Some channels like LinkedIn for example are better suited to B2B audiences.
Think about the type of content you’ll be creating for your business and what you’ll be promoting. Will it be more visual with images and videos? Or are you looking to promote things like articles? This will help determine which social media platform you should be using.
It’s important to take the time to properly understand all the different social media platforms and how they could work for your business. Whilst it might be tempting to have a presence across every platform, that is not always the best strategy.
